QUOTE (emodot @ Nov 28 2005, 08:31 PM)
That makes no sense. Effects loops go after the preamp and before the poweramp. I think you mean it gets the power tubes running hotter, but the same effect would be achieved by cranking your Master Volume.
I guess I left out a key point. I use a power attentuator, a THD hot-plate, so I've already got the volume up pretty high, and slaving the fx loop allows me to pump twice as much power through the tubes. Essentially by doing this the send and return knobs become gain knobs. And it is the preamp tubes not the power tubes absorbing the load. It's similar to principle of cascading gain introduced by the mesa boogie Mark I.

Good luck recording. Buy a shitload of memory--with the numbers that those bargain bin macs are putting out you'll need it.

I only use Cool Edit Pro 2 (now adobe audition) for mastering and EQing final mixes.
Its not ideal for multitracking although it can do it.

Just wanted to post what "the cave" looks like now with the MOTU. It fitted in the gap perfectly. Just removed a draw to put the Amp and MOTU in.
I really wish i didnt have a hangover. I have no motivation to record anything

I also wish i could actually create a piece of music that doesnt sound like something else.

with drums, you can do a full mic set up with about 8 mics, but you will need the mics and 8 pre's, or, a mixer with 8 pres. thats the best choice. the best would be the 8 seperate pres so you can edit each track. you can also mic drums with 3 mics. i know theres a guide for micing drums with 3 mics and having it come out good. i have miced drums with only 1 mic and had it come out not too bad. you can do that by placing the mic about 10-15 feet away from the set, aiming the mic under the crash cymbols, but above the bass drum.

For drums I recommend Shure SM57's for toms, a Shure Beta 52 or AKG kick mic, and Audix overheads. For the kickdrum, it sounds good if you take the front head off (the side you dont hit) and place the mic inside. Then put a big blanket over the bass drum (obviously not over the part you hit). Hope that helps.
