Safari is clearly faster based on tests determining speeds of different actions between Safari, IE, and FF.
If you want fast browsing and could care less about all the bells and whistles FF has to offer then use Safari, obvi.
But if you use all the extensions just use ff, Safari is nothing revolutionary.

dude, look at the comparisons, IE 5 and Firefox version 1.something. Come on now. No one will ever know. I think Im gonna hold off on Safari till the real 3 comes out, beta uses too much ram. Sorry. Maybe if I had a mac, but unfortunately I don't yet.

Safari uses less memory for me than it used to.

It won't affect your download speeds.

Getting a Macbook probably within the next two weeks as a graduation present. Suggestions on how I should go about it? Looking on the site I'm thinking the 2.16 GHz, white, with a 160GB drive. I'm wondering if I should just go for the two gigs of ram through Apple, or if I should get one and upgrade it myself. Lori?
mike.
Jun 11 2007, 11:47 PM
Self upgrade. Do not upgrade through apple, they're good people but overcharge on shit like that Diego.''
Go pro btw.

Jun 11 2007, 11:48 PM
Cool. Thanks buddy. Where could I buy the extra ram?
Edit: Pretty sure a Pro's above my budget. Don't wanna push my luck, and realistically, I'm pretty sure I don't need one.

Dude, I would wait til October if necessary. I mean, unless your starting courses now, I would wait.
I talked to Lori about it today, he said wait til Oct. for the fact of the new graphics card and leopard installed.

Ugh. I think I really have to consider that just 'cause Lori said it. Thanks.

Diego, all I am saying is that the Macbook has just been updated, but still stayed on the "old" core 2 duo plattform with the old GMA950 GFX card. However, the new Santa Rosa platform features a new graphics card which will almost rectify the questionable 3d performance of the current offering.
Also if you're getting a reg macbook, get black.

Don't forget you can order with a student discount, regardless of you even being a student or not.
That will knock off a little more than $100 if you get black...I think.

just downloaded and installed safari. time to see how this works.
edit: alright, even though i've used safari for only a couple minutes, i don't really like it. i'm sure it works much better on mac os x, but it seems to lag on windows. plus i really don't like this bolded font it has, though i'm sure there's probably a way to change it. i'll probably keep using this for a couple more days and then i might go back to firefox.

It's probably anti aliased, not bolded. Let me check it out, I'll get back to you in a sec.

I don't like the black, personally. To me, the clean white is what makes it Apple (aesthetically, anyway). And I also don't think it's worth the extra money.

That's why you should all go Pro and go silver. That's what defines a Mac, not white...Their top of the line stuff has been silver for a long time.
On a different note, my best friend (who's an incredible video editor) received his Mac Pro today (with dual 20" cinema displays, etc), so I'll be drooling over that for awhile.

I know you mentioned to me you wanted to get an AppleTV because you're moving and the new place won't have a dvr. But Apple TV does NOT record shows.
Though you can plug your macbook straight up to your television using VGA, s-video, or the yellow video cord.
Don't get me wrong if I had $300 I would prob buy an Apple TV, just because of hassle free movement of the macbook and having to plug in an audio source, but if a macbook pro depended on it, I think I would go pro.
