I am still not sure if moving to intel was the right decision.
Speed wise, yes.
Although if you use a G5, you will notice how they seem much more stable and also ... I can't explain it, but like smoother?
i know a couple people with macbook pros (one of which is my algorithms professor) who have told me their intel chips are less stable than the ones in their old apples.
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 07:21 AM
Well I am going to say that it is because Tiger was not built for the Intel from the ground up.
Here's hoping Leopard will change a lot in that respect.
It looks much better than it used to.

but why in the world do they still have the aqua scrollbars? They don't fit in at all.
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 07:24 AM
That's what I am saying.
It just seems - not done.
Maybe they're holding back some stuff, and when the final release is out we're all gonna be blown away?
The buttons and window close, min and max buttons look much better now.

I use the grey ones so that's my least concern, but god damnit I can't get over the now weird menubar. It looks soooooo odd.

Yeah, but if they stayed they wouldn't have been able to keep up. It's just such a big business.
I'm pretty sure Leopard will be sexy when its done.
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 07:36 AM
Well if they want to have the release in october, they need to ship the gold master in less than two weeks.

http://i20.tinypic.com/iqwhar.pngdude, that is fine. It just looks gay because of the wallpaper.
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 07:43 AM
That's the default, main wallpaper.
And trust me, I've seen pictures with other wallpapers, it looks equally bad or worse.
Jesse.
Oct 3 2007, 07:46 AM
Did they keep the grass background as an option at least?
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 07:56 AM
You can always download it, but even with that it is not as nice as it still is on apple's macosx page.
Jesse.
Oct 3 2007, 08:13 AM
Well, crap...
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 08:14 AM
yeah, dude

Oct 3 2007, 08:17 AM
So, I'm getting my shell replaced in a couple of weeks. Is there any way I could replace the hard drive and get more space? I've only got a 100GB at this point, and i'd like a 160...
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 08:20 AM
sure, but apple themselves don't do it, I have the same problem concerning my hard drive.

I loved the grass. That was tight as fuck.
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 08:29 AM
I know, and the menu bar was awesome in that release too.
damn apple for listening to all the macrumors crybabies.
Jesse.
Oct 3 2007, 08:30 AM
Maybe they're punking us and they'll fix the menu and background to what they were?
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 08:32 AM
no because people hated them and LOVE THE NEW ONE
it's like they are retarded.
alex.
Oct 3 2007, 08:32 AM
maybe, knowing that their users love gui customization, apple will have a bunch of different appearance preferences; like semi-transparent menu bar, new menu bar, etc.
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 08:33 AM
Not in the current builds, Alex.
I'd rather have a nice looking OS from the get-go instead of having to spend time to customize it. the WWDC build was almost perfect, looks wise.

Oct 3 2007, 01:24 PM
ahhhh i loved the transparent bar
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 01:28 PM
It still is, to some extent.
Chaz
Oct 3 2007, 01:45 PM
I guess i thought it was more transparent than it actually is. For some reason i thought it was almost completely clear.
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 01:50 PM
it's even less transparent than that now.
http://i24.tinypic.com/2hpsww3.pngTyson loves it, so I guess we'll see once it's out. He said it was 100% awesome.

no, the grey looks awesome in use/person
it's the menu bar that bugs me, still.
If the iPhone could copy and paste I would quote Adam saying you're going to end up loving how it looks anyway.
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 05:11 PM
well it's the same people who made the iPhone, so maybe it works out for the best once they're completely done with it.
I need to stop judging things by the beta.

is the 2gb of memory and the 160gb from 120gb upgrade worth the extra 200 or so bucks?
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 05:50 PM
if it's 200 bucks extra totally,
but get a smaller hd with 7200rpm, so much better.
shyne po
Oct 3 2007, 05:51 PM
yea they only offer the 5400rpm
Lori
Oct 3 2007, 05:52 PM
get the 120gb 7200rpm.
faster boot times, faster starting applications, faster video conversion etc.
trust me
shyne po
Oct 3 2007, 05:56 PM
i believe you but the ksu's applestore only sells the 2.16ghz with the 5400rpm with the upgrade of 160 and 200 at 4200

The Voyager looks ugly as hell compared to the iPhone, though the far faster wireless and the inlaid keyboard do make it tempting. From a purely utilitarian standpoint it doesn't seem like a sucky buy.

I agree it doesn't look as appealing, but the fact that it's faster than cingular + full qwerty keyboard is a plus for me.
but the iphone is made by apple, END OF DISCUSSION

It makes phone calls.
