So I am a long time fan, and Im pretty much in the same situation as saosin was. About a year ago I started a band, 5 guys, 2 on guitar, 1 on bass, 1 on drums, and a lead singer. Well in the past week the singer dropped out of our band along with the guitarist (but i wrote the music anyways) and joined another band, very similar to the Saosin and Anthony Green deal a few years back. So this brings me to my question, the rest of our band wants to stay together and keep playing our music, perhaps with me on vocals (as well as guitar) or maybe a new singer all together... How does the legal end of this work out? Can I sing the same vocal melody and use the same lyrics? Do I need consent from the ex-singer? Or Can I just do them because he made them with the band. You can see how this is similar to Saosin, and seeing as how they used the vocals that Ant use to sing... did they ask him? or what...

please help me with the answer or a place where i could find out

As far as i know Anthony didn't write anything from Translating the Name, the only thing he may have written that was actually used on a recording was I Can Tell and maybe Mookie's Last Christmas. Not sure about those ones. So if he didn't write the songs it doesn't matter if he left. There's my two cents.

if it's copywritten then you have a problem...but other than that it's fine legally, but you'll get some shit for it from the guys

I'm pretty sure Anthony wrote all of the lyrics on TTN. Unless for some odd reason the band decided to write a song about a letter to anthonys dad (Seven Years) before he was in the band.

like said earlier, if it was copywrited with your old singer, then you cant use it im pretty sure. but if you guys are an unsigned band, im pretty sure you have all the rights to use the lyrics/melody.

if your old singer is a big enough ass to sew you, then kill him and burry him under your porch, then you can write new songs about that. 2birds 1stone

Yeah. Anthony wrote all the lyrics and shit, Beau fixed them so they would fit the songs.
