the winter solstice. December 21, 2012. the sun rises at the dark rift of the milkey way. this happens once ever 25,800 years. in the last 5 years it has been determined that there is a black hole in the center of the dark rift. this alignment could be like crossing a galactic equator which could cause a polar shift... which would result in world wide disaster. this date has been predicted by the mayans, the i ching, the bible, nastrodamus, even that stupid web-bot software... doomed? possibly.

ok so it's not nearly the same magnitude as this but remember when the whole Y2K thing was supposed to be disastrous and then nothing happened at all? so anticlimactic.
i'm not hoping for the world to end on 12/21/2012, but something exciting better happen that day. i dont want another let down like on 01/01/00

There's a lot of stuff going on in 2012, but I don't believe it is the end of the world. The thing everyone talks about with this date is the mayan calendar ending, but what none of those people realize is that the mayans barely even mentioned anything special about this date - they saw their calendar ending, but then just starting over again without any disaster.
As far as all the astronomical stuff, it is an interesting coincidence that a lot of things fall around this date, but i don't think anything drastic is going to happen either. A lot of people thought that the whole particle accelerator thing being turned on this past august was going to end the world but obviously that didn't happen.

"This event is said to cause numerous earth changes, however that is not possible considering that the event is only a visual phenomenon from the earths perspective, which is caused by the precession of the equinoxes or the 26,000 year wobble of the earth,
which only changes our perspective, not the actual position of the earth in relation to the galaxy. In short, there is no gravitational force or radiation to be expected from this event because other than the tilt of the earth, nothing will be any different than any other solstice. "
