Knowing the general musical taste on this board, I am sure this thread will quickly fade into obscurity. However, I feel it is vital to at least try to spurn interest in the original masters of 20th century music.
My favorite Jazz records:
John Coltrane- A Love Supreme, My Favorite Things, Ascension
Miles Davis- Bitches Brew, Kind of Blue, Birth of the Cool, Miles Smiles
Thelonious Monk- Brilliant Corners, Underground
I also love Weather Report and Mahavishnu Orchestra if we ever get into a fusion discussion.
How about you fellas?
Chase.

I thought maybe we had a Utah Jazz thread on our hands haha. I was stoked.

Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and Coltrane's My Favorite Things albums are my picks. Living in a music major dorm, I get to listen to jazz improv concerts in our hall every Thursday night, so I can appreciate this.

That's cool Markus. There is a jazz lab in my town that usually gets some pretty good acts that pass through. I've been kind of lazy in attending, I really need to start going to more. Jazz to me is spiritually cleansing...there is nothing more relaxing. It gives me that warm goosebumps kind of feel when I close my eyes and just let go.

Jazz is really nice to relax to and let go of everything else. Though I have yet to actually explore Denton and find a good jazz place to regularly go to, being able to watch the One O' Clock Lab Band live a couple o' weeks ago... hot damn! Absolutely incredible.

best thread ruiners: russ, ricky.
if you're ignorant when it comes to something, then try not posting in the thread. see: ricky in the hockey thread, russ in this one.

Was it me ruining it or the obvious disinterest that killed this thread?

I feel like the best course of action would be to merge this with the post-rock and electronica music threads under the thread name 'Cool Kids Corner'. That way I can feel alienated in a more concise manner.

this is our revenge for being alienated throughout high school...alienating people on message boards. seriously.
no, but really, russ is the cool one here. wow, where did he get those hilarious comics? it's like...garfield...minus...garfield!

One of my favorite jazz songs of all time would have to be Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers doing Moanin'. I effin' love the solo section. I also love Esperanza Spalding and Jaco, of course. Haitian Fight Song is another personal fav.
But of course I love Satin Doll in any and all forms.
