I dont know if I like the fact that Thrice sounds like the bands they're looking up to.
Circles could've been on In Rainbows and nobody would've complained.
I haven't heard the song, but I think we can both agree that if a band's problem is making a song that could be on In Rainbows....there could be far worse problems.

No, I know what you mean. I remember those EPs having a These Arms Are Snakes song and a Kid A song and a Pelican song and a Deftones song. I think the problem is that they have too good of a taste in music. They appreciate way too much.

exactly what I meant. I even remember listening to (I think) The Messenger and thinking if this was a TAAS B-Side and then checking and realizing it was Thrice. big wtf moment.

It's a little ridiculous imo to say 'Circles could have been on In Rainbows'. I mean the vocal melody is pretty standard Dustin. You could make the case for the keyboard sounding like the typical Radiohead ondes martenot melodies, but otherwise it didn't even occur to me when I was first listening to the song that it could literally have been on In Rainbows.
I'll agree that The Alchemy Index was pretty much them jerking off their influences (and I mean that in the best way possible), but Beggars seems more like a distillation this time around. It might not be a startlingly original album, but its a good enough collage effect that I can more or less just enjoy it rather than calling out the name of the band that probably influenced the song. I mean, where's the fun in that?

I like beggars but honestly to me it doesn't have lasting value which is unfortunate.
With that said though I wish Thrice was playing the socal dates with brand new since I missed that tour last time around.
