some kid i know claims that he heard the reason why the artwork looks like that is because the album isn't going to come in a jewel case, but in this whole leathery archaic bible looking semi-book type thing. which would make sense, but then again he's probably just bullshitting.

That's an advance copy dude - it might just be temporary.
Maybe they'll have a special edition just like they did with TAITA and Vheissu.

good one.
album artwork sells the product? do you know anything about "selling the product"? never once have i met someone who said "hey, that cd has cool artwork, i think i'll pick it up!"
if the album art sucks, you might as well download it? you dont want to support the band and pay to listen to their MUSIC, which is the main idea? you're right, i guess there is no added value from buying their product so they can continue their careers and can keep making music that you enjoy.
do you even listen to thrice? you practically make fun of yourself.
You're completely right that the artwork is only a component of the whole package, but it is still a factor in how people perceive the product. For me the artwork of a product usually influences somewhat the way i react to music - after all, music is completely aural, and the artwork gives me a bit of a visual conduit for the way i can perceive the music. its the same thing as a sucky music video - sure, it really doesn't affect the music itself in the long run, but it still kind of blows because of that subconscious shift in your perception of the music, regardless of whether you mean to do it or not.
as for supporting the band, thrice probably gets practically nothing on their album sales. not only do they have to give away a large cut of it to their label for production and promotional costs, but thrice has donated a percentage of their proceeds from each album to charity - not only does this mean less money for them, but it also means they probably don't really care about the money itself. the best way of supporting a band is always to see them live, just because that's where bands get the real money, plus it shows you really truly support them in the way that buying a cd can't.

yeah a special edition would be tight. im doubting this leather case idea, though it would be cool nonetheless

I am doubting that leather book idea as well because of cost of it would be expensive. The artwork was rushed by the label i'm assuming becuase other wise that other artist would have done it. I really never saw them going to vagrant records either, I kind of wish they would have went back to subpop
Charlie.
Aug 30 2007, 07:22 PM
I wouldnt doubt the idea of the whole leather book idea.
Vagrant is going to make so much money from thrice, they would not mind spending a couple extra bucks for them to get what they want.

I get the feeling that the Earth disc is probably going to be a B-side version of Please Come Home. Or that Please Come Home was the B-side version of the Earth disc. I'm not sure yet.
Charlie.
Sep 13 2007, 06:39 PM
please come home is defintely a b-side. Its a well orcestrated record, but the main ideas just aren't solid ehough.

Yeah most definitely. However, Firebreather is slightly disappointing in comparison to the live vids of it i saw. The sound seems a bit more muddled, the bass doesn't sound as cool, and Dustin doesn't do that scream at the end of the first verse.

New video up - this one's for Air. Personally, i think the Air songs will probably end up being the best since the band's pretty much playing to its strengths for those songs.
Question - does anybody know if Eddie writes songs with other instruments? Or does he just play bass?

I'm pretty sure he wrote the simple basic keys on Digital Sea or was that Riley? I forget. It may have been riley.
Charlie.

It was Eddie.
Eddie can actually play the guitar pretty well.
