I am trying to get as much input as i can before i go ahead and figure out what to do with my amp.

I have a sovtek mig 100 its a really good loud amp but there is just about no gain. to give it gain now i have a turbo rat pedal but to me it just sounds too fuzzy and not deep enough.

I am thinking about getting the amp modded to the hi gain model or buying a really good pedal thats not going to sound fake. so does anyone have any suggestions?

i recently got an Ashdown fallen angel stack (like three days ago), and it is LOUD. Sounds great too me biggrin.gif

i see no point in upgrading an amp.. a good pedal will actually make the amp LOUDER, because you run the pedal through the clean channel of the amp, which is naturally louder than the distorted channel. starsneversleep has a digitech hot rod rock dist. pedal, about 80 bucks at GC. it works wonders.

no 100 watt amp will ever be loud enough for venues, so dont think you didnt get a good one. if you want something much louder, you'll need at least a 4x12 cabinet and a decent head. starsneversleep also has a crateGFX 212, great amp for less than any half stack, but it only goes so loud.

hope i was of service. peace out homie

yea im not thinking about getting a new one and i know it is a good amp. what i meant is that i am looking to beef up the sound of my amp.

sovteks are only one channel.....they are old amps they dont make them anymore. and i have a marshall 4x12 cabinet

i know whats up with my amp and stuff i was just looking for input on what i could do to get a some more gain and tone

a shitty guitar run through an amazing amp = lots of shittyness

which brings up the next question what are you playing and what pickups are you running?
Nicholas
I am playing a Gibson les paul with the humbuckers.

I think you guys misunderstood me and i guess i should have been more clear

my amp does not sound like shit....it sounds good. my problem is that a sovtek mig 100 is basically modeled after a marshall jcm 800. these amps do not have a lot of gain. i am asking what people use to give their amp a beefed up sound. i wasnt playing hardcore before and now i am starting to and i want to know how to get that hi gain sound through a pedal or possibly modding my amp if it comes to that
ts
im not saying its shitty i was just pointing out that maybe your pickups could be replaced for that "beefed up deep overdrive" your lusting after. go with seymour duncan. its all teh difference in the world.
oso hormiguerro
exactly, my fender came with seymour duncan pearly gates. get those. and upgrading amps really doesn't work too well i think. thats why i dont like gibsons, they should really muddy.

bye the way, jude law is hot as hell, i loved his vasilli act in enemy at the gates. fucking bolsheviks

i had a mig 100 b4 i got an orange, I had it modded to a 50 w high gain version... 100 watts is plenty to play a venue... if the venue is any decent size, they're going to mic you anyway... I personally like natural distortion, the sovtek has potential, by dropping it to 50 watts, i could get distortion out of it way sooner than when it was 100 w. It's as simple as a new transistor and dumping 2 tubes.
Nicholas
what kind of music were you playing?

cuz i mean i just feel stuck with the natural distortion. i mean it is really awesome and gritty but there is like no gain at all. i can barely palm mute with just the amp.

did you have just a regular mig 100 or a mig 100 H ?
starsneversleep
i say just try a new pedal, if it doesnt get as loud as you want it, its still a good thing to have

itll make it alot louder and the distortion is a lot easier to fiddle with and get to where you want the sound to be

try getting some EMG pickups they help...and a seperate EQ box...and Line 6 has an awesome distortionoverdrive pedal where it mod's other companies sounds out there...its awesome...u can make your amp scream with that pedal...but a seperate EQ helps a lot ...also look into a line 6 POD or a mesa boogie tube distortion box

http://line6.com/productDetail.html?model=32 <---dm4 distortion modeler

http://www.line6.com/podxtpro/US/ <--pod xt pro-awesome...you can hook that shit up to your pc and input artists tones into it...i really really reccomend it..it can make a shit amp sound great...plus with the pod you dont just get distortion you get tons of different sounds....You can mod tons of classic AMP heads ranging from a dual rectifier to a marshall jcm..you can also mod CABS to make yours sounds like another...also there is a mic option to with different mic selections if u want to go directly to a micing board,etc....i seriously reccomend any kind of POD..its well worth it

in my opinion, fuck pedals. it all depends on how much money you want. if you want crunch, get a line 6 , marshall, or mesa boogie.

yah mesa's rectifier distortions are nice...they have a better tone than some pedals can put out
williamkim
well i cant believe no ones said this yet, but basicaly it soudns like you liek your tone and shiznaps from your amp, but you wnat more distortion? am i not right? and if u really wnat to get into heavy stuff, look into the GAINIAC. amazing distortion, its rackmount...and completely amazing! also if you wnated to get heavier, you can also buy an EMG after burner for your guitar. adds EVEN MORE distortion! hope i helped
mugatu
personally i am a huge fan of the hughes & kettner tube factor pedal
ebay is your best bet for getting ahold of one
skyline burning
If you can afford it, I highly recomend Mesa.
