im thinking of getting a telecaster, i play a random assorment of music from the beatles to all shall perish, is this a good buy?

If any guitar can do that, I'd say the tele is it. But saying that a tele can do good metalcore is pushing it I think.

Do you guys work to have all those amazing guitars or are you just spoiled?

That's a lot of gear. My dad works for Mesa/Boogie =] Nice to see you have one.

this year i spend every dollar i earn on either gear or fruit smoothies...
my parents refuse to support this hobbie, so i pay for it all
James...
Where do you work Monty? I'm only 16 so your job probably pays better than mine but thats still some mad money your talkin about there that would take me years to come up with on my present job.
Ddjembe Mutombo
i worked at Sams Club for 6mo and GC for a mo
you have to be 18 to work at either of those places i think, well i think you can be 16 to be cartcrew at sams club,
i started at 9.40 and hour as a cashier with no experience at sams club, not to mention i worked 25-35 hour weeks, mostly 32 hour weeks
but honestly, you do bank

also GC only payed me 7 and hour to be the front door guy, they work you like 16 hours a week so you dont make much but you get a pretty sick discount,

one last reason why i have so much is because i became chill with the sales man so once i got fired they still cut my like 20-30% off new gear

The Schecter Studio w/o pickguard looks pretty tempting, but I'm not a big fan of 5-strings, EMGs, or dual-humbucker setups.

yep! ive never been a fan of 5string basses!

the white one looks tight though!

i enjoy the middle one the most

the white one looks like a 40 yr olds jam band bass

Don't bother with the DL4 if you want to put it in the loop or you have bad luck with reliability in gear normally. They can only take instrument-level signals, so you need an adjustable loop or you need to put it out front. Furthermore, a lot of people report having them blow up on them in the middle of shows. I haven't had it go wonky on me yet, but it might just be a matter of time. On the positive, though, they sound fucking insane, and the tap tempo is always handy.

Other cool delay pedals include the Ibanez DE7 (especially when you switch to Echo mode and put the repeat knob near full... oooohhh), the Digitech Digidelay (Standard delay, analog-style delay, chorus delay, reverse delay, 4-seconds of looping, AND crazy woopa-woopas when you play with the time knob, but be careful of stomping too hard), the BOSS units (just your standard delay, really... nothing TOO cool, but they won't break on you), and, believe it or not, the Danelectro DanEcho (cool vintage-style sounds, some modern ones, delay freakouts and woopa-woopas a plenty, but I wouldn't trust 'em at a show)

A Terrible Strat knockoff I like to use to practice guitar spins

An Alvarez Acoustic, which was my first guitar. A little beat up now but very nice.

A Vox AD30VT

Once I get things going with my band I'm gonna buy a gigworthy amp, I just don't know which one yet.
James...
This is pretty sick.

if so many bands use them why shouldnt i get one, oh and i already have delay built into my lin6 spyderII so its mostly for the loop, and my parents said they'd buy it so money isnt an issue
Jesse.
i've had mine for over a year and i've had no problems with it at all. the dl4 has a lot more options than your spider II does. you're very limited since you've got 11 other effects or whatever crammed into that amp. personally, i think the dl4 is totally worth the money.

get the line 6. Just about every band in the world uses it. There is a reason for it. Its amazing. No questions asked it.

yeah thats what i was trying to say earlier, what emodot said was the first negative thing i've heard about it
Nickdot
I didn't say it sucked. I own one! It's my main delay! But you NEED an adjustable loop if you want to use it post-distortion. And I've had friends have theirs fail before, so I don't want to feel like a dick when I recommend something and it breaks down on you.
Jesse.

Something with a knob for FX Send (and FX Return as well, preferably), or a switch between Line and Instrument level loops. A few amps have a switch between Pro and Consumer (or +4 and -10 / rack and pedal, respectively), which is better than nothing, but usually still sounds weird.
Jesse.

my old guitarist used to do this, but it sounded fake. it didn't capture his typical sound at all.

the line 6 delays really do break after a year. mine is so unpredictable and unreliable.

im guessing my spyder II doesnt have that so im pretty much fucked
Nickdot
Most likely it doesn't. I wouldn't know, I haven't spent tons of time with one, especially on the back panel. But you can always put 'em out front of the amp and they'll do just dandy.
shroom
yeah i figured you were just getting into big talk i dont understand, thats what i was gonna do anyways, i dont know much about gear and all that jazz, i just know about playin;)
daniel.
hey i had a question about a marshall amp i was interested in.
right now i use a 75 watt line 6 spider II which is pretty good, but im interested in getting a half stack just for small shows i play and i need something that can go a little louder with a lot less of the feedback. i dont exactly have a lot of money to use on it, so im interested in getting this half stack:
Marshall MG100HDFX/MG412 Slant Cab Half Stack Package which is about $600
i listened to the mp3 samples and read the reviews and i think i will be satisfied with it, the only major question i had was if any of you own this, how does it play? and also what exactly does the FDD (Frequency Dependent Dampening) do? thanks.

Line 6 DL-4
Boss MT-2
MXR Phase 90

Electro Harmonix Small Stone

Shure SM 57

My buddy has it and he does not like it at all. You may like it thouhg, try it out in a stroe. You can always just get a good tube combo too instead of a half stack.
daniel.
do you know what the FDD does?
Ddjembe Mutombo
when it comes to delays... its all about the Electroharmonix memory man deluxe
that toy is krunk
Nicholas
do not get that amp if you want people to take you seriously. People need to realize tube amps are the only way to go.

yeah ive been looking into that.
im not getting one soon though, maybe a like a few months, but would it be better to buy the heads and cabs seperately in some cases. like i found this head:
Hughes & Kettner Attax 100 H&K 120watt Tube Guitar Amp
its tube and i know Hughes & Kettners play great.
so probably when i actually do buy one i can find a good head like this for a good deal and then try to find a cab for a good price.
Taylor.
considering I'm a bass player and it a bass guitar I thought i'de chime in on my current set up.

Ampeg SVT 4 Pro head
Ampeg 8x10 Cabinet

here's the kicker though

I recently traded in my ernie ball stingray plus another grand for a 1969 fender american jazz bass with emg's.

sounds so fuckin big and clear and smooth.
beloved_kid
thats what my penis sounds like

i would never want to be a bassplayer in a band! just not my thing.
